The schoolbots final will take place on March 11th 2010 as part of Tipperary Institutes Games Fleadh 2009, which is Ireland's largest computer console programming festival. 

Registration for the schoolbots final is between 11:30 and 11:45 hrs and the competition itself commences at 12:00 hrs and will end at 15:00 hrs

Schoolbots update : 16/12/2009

If any competitors wish to modify their robots they may do so and submit the modified robot via email ( schoolbots@tippinst.ie ) to be received no later that 17:00 hrs on Friday 26th February 2010. No robot modifications will be accepted after that time. The Schoolbots organiser decision on this is final.

Schoolbots Competition 

Welcome to SchoolBots. SchoolBots is a computer game programming competition aimed at transition year students and above at secondary schools in Ireland. Tipperary Institute are the organisers of this competition. The competition is hosted at Tipperary Institutes campus in Thurles. Tipperary Institute offers a number of courses in software, games and multimedia development. Schoolbots is also part of Games Fleadh 2010 which is Ireland's computer console programming festival.

 

The idea behind the game is to build a software robot and destroy the rest of your opponents. The photo on the left depicts the robocode environment and a match in progress.The game environment used is called robocode and was developed originally by IBM. Competition Overview

Schools should register their interest no later than January 15th 2010. A teacher can register their school on this website. by clicking on the registration pageCompetition is limited to 40 schools and is on a first come first served basis. The closing date for submission of entries is February 26th 2010. The National Final will take place on March 11th 2010.  

Competition Details

2010 will mark the 4th year for the SchoolBots Challenge. SchoolBots is a computer game programming competition aimed at transition year students and above at secondary schools in Ireland. The entrants use Java to program robot tanks to battle in an arena against each other. The little graphical tanks need to be programmed to avoid being hit. They need to be smart enough to move around an arena without any kind of manual control. This competiion introduces the fundamental of computer programming to students using the medium of a game,

Our competition is limited to 40 schools and registration is on and first come first served basis. Schools are requested to register their interest via the website registration page

A team may contain a maximum of three students. Entrants should submit a single Java source file accompanied by the attached entry form by 5.00pm on Friday Feb 26th 2010. If you wish to submit more than one team (maximum of 3 teams) we can arrange for a playoff to take place on the day of the event between the various teams . The submission of a SchoolBot must be authorised by a school teacher and/or principal as per the schools rules and regulations.

Students submitting a SchoolBot will be required to attend the competition accompanied by a teacher/parent/guardian and with their schools consent.
